About
I am excited to share a bit about myself with you!
My name is Carlos, I graduated in Industrial Engineering in Seville and I am a Software Engineer. I have always been passionate about technology and software development, and thanks to that, I have been working on it remotely over the last years.
Tools & Technologies
I have a few favorite things when it comes to technology:
- π Python: This is the language I feel most comfortable with and the one I mainly use in my work and in my pet projects. Besides building APIs with frameworks like Django, FastAPI, and Flask, I enjoy exploring Python for automation, backend services, scripting, and experimenting with new libraries and tools in the ecosystem.
- π§ Linux: Linux is the operating system I use most both professionally and personally. I enjoy experimenting with different distributions and desktop environments, especially across ecosystems like Arch-based, Ubuntu-based, and Fedora-based systems. In my current role I also work with Windows, so I regularly switch between environments depending on the project. Fun fact: I still keep an Ubuntu 7 installation CD from the days when Canonical used to ship them for free.
- π€ AI & Machine Learning: I have a strong interest in AI and machine learning and have been exploring various applications of these technologies in areas such as natural language processing, computer vision, and predictive modeling β even before the recent AI boom!
- π₯οΈ System administration: For many years I have managed cloud-based systems and infrastructure. At home I run a small homelab based on Proxmox, where I manage multiple virtual machines and containers to host self-hosted services, experiment with infrastructure, and learn new technologies.
- π΄ββ οΈ Cybersecurity: It has always been one of my main hobbies. For more than 10 years I have been analyzing malware, studying attack vectors, ways to protect against remote attacks, and promoting good security practices.
I have also explored web development, with basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript, and some experience building SPAs with Angular. Recently Iβve been having fun building things with Astro π (like this blog!).
Hobbies
And when Iβm not coding, I love reading and Iβm a huge fan of author Brandon Sanderson. I also enjoy experimenting with different ways to prepare coffee β Iβm always looking for new recipes and beans to try. I also like to play basketball and practice gymnastics on rings.
βAnd so, does the destination matter? Or is it the path we take? I declare that no accomplishment has substance nearly as great as the road used to achieve it. We are not creatures of destinations. It is the journey that shapes us. Our callused feet, our backs strong from carrying the weight of our travels, our eyes open with the fresh delight of experiences lived.β
