About
I am excited to share a bit about myself with you!
My name is Carlos, I graduated in Industrial Engineering in Seville and I am a Software Engineer. I have always been passionate about technology and software development, and thanks to that, I have been working on it remotely over the last years.
Tools & Technologies
I have a few favorite things when it comes to technology:
- 🐍 Python: This is the language I feel most comfortable with and the one I mainly use in my work and in my pet projects. Besides building APIs with frameworks like Django, FastAPI, and Flask, I enjoy exploring Python for automation, backend services, scripting, and experimenting with new libraries and tools in the ecosystem.
- 🐧 Linux: Linux is the operating system I use most both professionally and personally. I enjoy experimenting with different distributions and desktop environments, especially across ecosystems like Arch-based, Ubuntu-based, and Fedora-based systems. In my current role I also work with Windows, so I regularly switch between environments depending on the project. Fun fact: I still keep an Ubuntu 7 installation CD from the days when Canonical used to ship them for free.
- 🤖 AI & Machine Learning: I have a strong interest in AI and machine learning and have been exploring various applications of these technologies in areas such as natural language processing, computer vision, and predictive modeling. Even before the recent AI boom!
- 🖥️ System administration: For many years I have managed cloud-based systems and infrastructure. At home I run a small homelab based on Proxmox, where I manage multiple virtual machines and containers to host self-hosted services, experiment with infrastructure, and learn new technologies.
- 🏴☠️ Cybersecurity: It has always been one of my main hobbies. For more than 10 years I have been analyzing malware, studying attack vectors, ways to protect against remote attacks, and promoting good security practices.
I have also explored web development, with basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript, and some experience building SPAs with Angular. Recently I’ve been having fun building things with Astro 🚀 (like this blog!).
When I started this blog at the end of 2022, today’s AI agents did not exist, the first version of ChatGPT had only just appeared and was just a bit more than a fancy Google search. Everything I wrote and maintained on the blog was done manually.
Today, I use AI tools as assistants while maintaining and reviewing the site. This may include proofreading, technical checks, and repetitive maintenance tasks. The ideas, opinions, personal experiences, and final editorial decisions remain my own, and I review AI-assisted changes before publication.
I also indicate when AI has been involved in the work, as in the posts about using Claude Code to fix old typos and updating the blog theme with AI. Substantial AI-assisted maintenance is explicitly identified too, as in the maintenance changelog.
Hobbies
And when I’m not coding, I love reading and I’m a huge fan of author Brandon Sanderson. I also enjoy experimenting with different ways to prepare coffee and I’m always looking for new recipes and beans to try. I also like to play basketball and practice gymnastics on rings.
“And so, does the destination matter? Or is it the path we take? I declare that no accomplishment has substance nearly as great as the road used to achieve it. We are not creatures of destinations. It is the journey that shapes us. Our callused feet, our backs strong from carrying the weight of our travels, our eyes open with the fresh delight of experiences lived.”
― Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings
